WebP to PNG, for everything that will not open a WebP
Browsers handle WebP everywhere. Plenty of desktop software, older CMS uploaders and a few printers still do not. This converts back, losslessly, with transparency intact.

What you should know
The usual reason for needing this is not the web at all. You saved an image from a site, it came down as WebP, and now the thing you want to put it into refuses it. Older versions of Photoshop, some Office builds, a lot of CMS media libraries and most print workflows expect PNG or JPEG and stop at anything else.
PNG is the right target for that job because it is lossless and it supports transparency. Converting WebP to PNG will not recover any detail that the original WebP compression discarded, but it will not throw anything further away either. What you see in the WebP is what lands in the PNG.
Expect the file to get larger, often several times larger. That is not a fault in the conversion; it is the cost of a lossless format. If the destination accepts JPEG and the image has no transparency, that will produce a much smaller file.
Questions people ask
Is WebP to PNG conversion lossless?
The conversion itself is lossless: every pixel in the WebP is written exactly into the PNG. It cannot restore detail that was lost when the WebP was originally created.
Why is the PNG so much bigger than the WebP?
PNG stores every pixel without lossy compression. A three-to-ten-times size increase is normal and expected. If the file does not need transparency and the destination accepts it, JPEG will be far smaller.
Does transparency survive?
Yes. Both formats support an alpha channel, so transparent areas convert across unchanged.
Can I convert animated WebP files?
No. Animated WebP converts to a single still frame, since PNG has no animation support. Use GIF or keep the original for animation.
Images are one line item
Compressing them is the cheap half of page speed. If the rest of the site is still slow, or the traffic is not converting once it arrives, that is the part we actually get paid for.
